The families of the deceased assemble at the Pura Desa in Jalan Hanoman after which they will go to the Griya (the house of the Pedanda, High Priest, in Jalan Sugriwa) where the will receive an effigy of the deceased prepared by the Pedanda. The will then go to the Pura Dalam Padang Tegal in the Monkey Forest where a ceremony is held to allow the spirits of the deceased to enter the effigies after which they will proceed to the Pura Mrajapati the graveyard temple, where the intention to cremate is confirmed. |

The families then move to the kuburan for a ceremony to wake up the dead when a piece of earth of the grave is placed within the effigies, after which they move to the petak where the effigies are placed in the 'houses' and the 'newly dead1 are welcomed home. The activity then moves to the kuburan where the physical remains of the dead will be dug up. |

At the petak the banjar, the village community members, will assist in cleaning and
washing the effigies/bodies.< |

The banjar members will go to the kuburan to dean it up and flatten the ground again in preparation of the cremation. |

| PEBERSIHAN

In procession to Pura Beji Jungut, Jalan Monkey Forest, Gang Okawati, where tirta,
Holy Water, will be collected from the spring. |

At the petak a last cleansing of the bodies takes place in a ceremony conducted by
the Pedanda. |

Tirta is collected from the river at Gunung Sari. |
| PENGUTANGAN

At the kuburan under the supervision of the Pedanda the space will be subdivided
and places designated for the bale, the roofed structures In which the sarcophagi
will be placed before the burning., after which the bale will be built. |

At the wantilan the sarcophagi (bulls and singha's) will be cleansed and blessed by the Pedanda after which, at about 10.30 am, they will be carried to the kuburan and placed on the bale bale. |

The effigies and remains will then be carried from the petak to the kuburan where they will be placed in the sarcophagi where a final ceremony will beheld at each banjar conducted by a Brahmin laymen priest. When they have all finished only one member of each family will remain at the bale all others moving to the edge of the cremation ground because of the fire hazard with so many fires being lit. Those remaining will light the firewood under the sarcophagi with a bunch of incense as no artificial means like kerosene are allowed.
It will then take a long time for the sarcophagi to burn out and the embers are cooled down enough so that the ashes of the deceased can be picked out and placed into a young coconut. |
