    2. Dear Kusuma, Public Relations, Monkey Forest

Would you be interested in an interview about the management of the Ubud Monkey Forest?

I write the Siapa interview column in BA. I feel that it would be fascinating for my readers if the interviewe covered the challenges, pleasures and responsibilities of caring for and feeding the 750 primates.

I would also emphasize in the interview the important role that the forest serves as an air cleaner and filter for the growing community of Ubud.

Bali Advertiser is targeted to tourists as well as the island’s 20,000 strong expat community. Distributed in locations all over the island and Indonesia, the popular newspaper has a distribution of around 21,000.

The 950-1050-word interview will be done completely by email and is free of charge. Let me know if you’d like to see my previously published interviews.

All it would take to get started is for me to send you around 18 questions and for you to provide me with a good photo of the spokesperson to be interviewed.

You will have an opportunity to check the interview to make sure it is accurate and up-to-date before it is published.

Please let me know if you are interested.

Bill Dalton, Siapa interview columnist for Bali Advertiser

p.s. I also write for the Jakarta Post and Tempo magazine. Has an article ever been published in these publications about the Ubud Monkey Forest?

Thank you for the information you have provided, this place truly attracts me from the moment I saw those photos on Instagram! I am planning to visit Bali for a 5-day getaway during the Independence Day’s long weekend this upcoming August, and I was wondering if this place closes during national holidays? 6. Hi!
I will be staying about an hour away from the Monkey Forest in Southern Bali, but am very interested in visiting. What would you recommend for cheap transportation? Is it expensive to rent a car for the day? How expensive are taxis? Do you have transportation? Or, would our best bet be renting a motor bike? My concern with that is a motor bike would take longer than an hour!

    Thank you!

I have visited Mobkey Forest yesterday and sadly got a monkey bite which was bleeding a little bit.
In Ubud clinic the wound was cleaned and I got a rabies vaccination just to be safe.
My question is have there been any cases of rabies in the monkeys or in dogs/cats (if there are any in the park)? Or have there been any reported infectious deseases people got after a bite?
Other than that incident we enjoyed the monkey forest a lot.

    1. Dear Marvin Doku

Please be informed that the current most concern and frequently questions from the visitors was about rabies, so why at this moment we more focus on rabies issues and at this moment we don’t have any data related to herpes B virus.
For rabies test, we will do when we find our monkey suddenly dead without any clear reason. In this case refer to the advice from Primate Research Centre of Udayana University of Bali; we will bring the body of the monkey to Bali Animal Disease Investigation Centre for rabies test.

Our professional nurse there, will give the treatment depend on your case, if the nurse think your case need more treatment to hospital or vaccine , they will recommended and escort you .

      1. Hello. My daughter was bitten by a monkey in the monkey forest 2 days ago.
The communication of Monkey forest is : “no panic, our monkeys never had rabies”.
When we went to the Ubud Clinic, the doctor said : no one ever contracted rabies in the monkey forest but our recommendation is to follow the vaccination protocol”.
This situation, added to the fact that your monkeys are not vaccinated is ambiguous when you have to make a decision.
Why not use the food to vaccine monkeys? This technic has already been used in France for foxes in much wider areas.

        1. Dear Alain

Dear sir/madame, thank you for letting us know about your daughter case.
Please be informed that there no report about rabies case on monkey in Bali until today.
At Ubud Mokey Forest when we find our monkey dead without any clear reason,
we delivered the body of the dead monkey to Bali Animal Disease Investigation Centre for rabies test
and for three years the results always NEGATIVE rabies.
Good to know about vaccine the animal use food.
Because base on the information from our advisor from Primate Research Centre of Udayana University of Bali there no vaccine method using food on monkey.
Refer to your information, we will contact our collaborator in Europe, Dr. Fany Brotcorne, from Behavioral Biology Unit – Primatology Research Group University of Liege, Belgium to ask her to get detail information about this method.
We hope this replay can answer your concern and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

  24. Hello!
We visited the monkey forest on March 8, decided to take a picture with the monkey, next to it was an employee who planted it on me. When the monkey jumped off my shoulder, I bit my middle finger on my arm, slightly, there were small marks from my teeth on my finger, there was no blood.
The question is, were there any cases of rabies in animals today?

Thank you in advance for your reply!

  25. Hi,

I will be visiting Bali in the end of May.

Just wanted to know, whether visits to the forests are under supervision/ a guide?

The reason i am asking is, i will be travelling with a 7 month infant and hence want to make sure.

I am ok, if i am provide with a guide / supervisor who can come along with us throughout the tour even on chargeable basis.

Just that, i don’t want any harm to the infant.

  27. We’re visiting your beautiful country for the first time. Can you please help me as to why the monkeys need a sanctuary? It seems that the interaction with humans might damage the natural behaviour and lifestyle of the monkeys by changing their feeding and foraging regime and also puts unwitting human visitors at danger of bites and scratches.
    Thank you

    1. Dear Mr. Richard Best,
Warmest greeting from Monkey Forest Ubud.
Thank you for your email and concern. Please be informed that aware about the scratch and bite risk when the visitors interact with the monkey, we are on the transition process to implement the policy “no more direct body contact between human and monkey”. This is like you mentioned in regards to keep natural behavior of our monkeys. For your information the existence of the monkey at monkey forest Ubud already identified since eleventh century. When in 1970 – this the momentum tourist that came to Ubud start to see the monkey – the number of monkeys in the park only 40 monkeys. At that time, we not feed them due to monkeys still can got the food from the nature. But year by year the population continue increasing and in 2017 (census in July 2017) the number already 749 in 12.5 hectare of forest, so why we need to feed them otherwise the will create a problem to out of the park community. I hope this reply can answer your question and concern. But if you still have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Have a great day.

Warmest greeting from Monkey Forest Ubud.
We are sorry to hear that,
We can not rescue the baby monkey and release to our forest because the monkeys live with group in their territory.
Please be informed you some reasons of the condition; the total of monkey in Monkey Forest Ubud is around 900 monkeys and it is overpopulation.
The monkey will attack her (the baby monkey) because they are very protective with their groups.
We also avoid any disease that can be transferred from the outside monkeys.
We are very sad to hear the condition of the baby monkey, as we know the monkey are wild and not pets.
We hope she can have the better life.
Thank you very much for your information and understanding

  35. Hi
I had a beautiful visit to a restaurant (and the forest, of course!) at the edge of the forest. I would love to know the name as they had “chairs” to sit on in the upstairs part of the restaurant. I would like to purchase one of those, but I don’t know what they’re called. I would have asked them but we had to hurry away due to all the children and adults were soaking wet from the rain that day, and wanted to get back to our house! Very happy for an answer 🙂

    1. Dear Marianne

Warmest greetings from Monkey Forest Ubud
I would like to inform you, we apologize, we don’t have any restaurant inside our forest, i think you visit the restaurant outside our park and we don’t know which one.

      thank you
